A Wonderful 3-Day, 2-Night Afghan Women’s Camp in Ballanaring 


Afghan Women’s Organisation Victoria AWOV was proud to organise a special 3-day, 2-night camp in Ballan for more than 50 Afghan women from refugee and migrant backgrounds.

For many newly arrived Afghan women, starting a new life in Australia can be very challenging. Some experience loneliness, isolation, stress and sadness as they adjust to a new country, far away from their families and friends. Some are even separated from their children. Every woman has her own story, her own challenges and her own journey.

This camp created a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where women could relax, connect, make new friends, share stories, laugh and enjoy time together.

AWOV organised everything for the women, including accommodation, Afghan-style breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with many enjoyable activities.

It was heartwarming to see women who may have felt isolated or alone beginning to connect with one another, build friendships and enjoy a strong sense of belonging.

Today, as the camp came to an end, many women asked us:

“When are we coming back again?”

That question, along with their smiles, laughter and happiness, showed us just how meaningful this experience was for them.
