AWOV supports women, young women and families from refugee and migrant backgrounds, particularly Afghan women. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, you are welcome to visit or contact us and speak with our team.

What types of support does AWOV provide?

What languages do you provide services in?

AWOV provides services in: English Dari Pashto Farsi Urdu If you need language support, please let our staff know when you visit.

Is AWOV a government service?

No. AWOV is a community-led, independent Non-Profit Organisation that works in partnership with government and community services to support women and families. We are registered as an Incorporated Association with DGR status.

Men’s Group “Chai & Chat” Program

Last night, the Afghan Women’s Organisation Victoria (AWOV) proudly welcomed Casey Council Mayor Stephen Koomen to our Men’s Group “Chai & Chat” program at the Hallam Senior Hall.

The Mayor spent time meeting with members of the Afghan community, listening to their experiences, discussing local issues, and learning more about the challenges and opportunities facing Afghan men and their families in Australia. It was a warm and meaningful conversation that strengthened the connection between Casey Council and our community.

The Men’s Group “Chai & Chat” runs every Thursday from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm, providing a safe and welcoming space where Afghan men can connect, build friendships, share experiences, and receive valuable information.

As part of this program, AWOV regularly organises information sessions on a wide range of important topics, including:

Australian laws and legal rights
The role of Victoria Police
Services Australia and Centrelink
Monash Health services
Settlement and community support
Health and wellbeing
Employment and education opportunities

These sessions help participants better understand Australian systems, access essential services, and become more confident and connected members of the community.

AWOV sincerely thanks Mayor Stephen Koomen for taking the time to visit our Men’s Group and engage directly with the Afghan community. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Casey Council to support and empower our diverse community.

LADIES ONLY EID CELEBRATION

On 13 June 2026, Afghan Women's Organisation Victoria proudly hosted a vibrant and successful Ladies Only Night at Maiwand Reception.

The evening was filled with colour, culture, and celebration. Women enjoyed beautiful displays of Afghan traditional clothing, stunning Henna (Hanna) art.

A spectacular fashion show highlighted the beauty and diversity of Afghan culture, while traditional Afghan music and dance performances brought excitement and joy to the night.

Guests also enjoyed a delicious variety of authentic Afghan food and had the opportunity to connect with community members and serice providers in a welcoming and supportive environment.
We were honoured by the presence of MP Cassandra Fernando, representatives from City of Casey Mayor Stefan Koomen, and many dedicated service providers who joined us in celebrating Afghan women's achievements, culture, and community spirit.

A sincere thank you to all our guests, volunteers, performers, sponsors, and supporters who helped make this event such a memorable success. Together, we continue to empower women, celebrate our rich cultural heritage, and strengthen our community.
